Client & Segmentation

Two clients can spend the same amount for entirely different reasons - segmentation is how you tell them apart.

The five study types

What sits inside this discipline

Spending alone doesn’t tell you much. Two affluent clients who spend identically may be buying for opposite reasons - one for recognition, one for privacy, one out of habit, another out of genuine desire. Client segmentation looks past the transaction to lifestyle, attitude, behavior, and motivation, and groups clients by how they actually decide, not by how much they spend.

Affluent Client Segmentation

High spend doesn’t mean similar taste, habits, or motivation.

This study separates your client base by behavior, lifestyle, motivation, and buying pattern, rather than by spend tier alone - giving you distinct, addressable segments instead of one broad “affluent” audience.

Client Persona Development

There’s always a person behind every segment.

This study builds out the needs, motivations, and behavior behind each client group, going beyond who your client is to explain why they act the way they do.

Client Loyalty & Retention Study

Winning a client and keeping one are two different problems.

This study identifies what sustains a valuable client relationship - trust, service, recognition - and what quietly signals a relationship is weakening, before it’s lost.

Client Satisfaction & Advocacy

A satisfied client doesn’t automatically become a loyal one.

This study measures whether a client’s experience is genuinely memorable, not just adequate, and shows which moments turn a satisfied client into an advocate.

Share of Wallet Study

What a client spends matters less than where else they spend it.

This study measures how much of a client’s total category spend actually reaches your brand versus your competitors, and where the room to grow it actually is.

Custom engagement. Fielded once, exclusive to one client, never syndicated or resold.

The Decision Arc

Client & Segmentation across the Decision Arc

Every discipline follows the same five-stage decision. Here is what we study at each stage, and how.

  1. I. Spark · Demand Trigger Detection

    What we study
How the moments that set a decision in motion differ by segment - a milestone for one group, a reward or a replacement for another.
    How we study it
A trigger inventory cut by generation, wealth tier and market.
  2. II. Aspiration · Value Frame Elicitation

    What we study
What “worthy” means to each segment, so recognition-seekers, privacy-seekers and collectors are no longer read as a single client.
    How we study it
MaxDiff with Hierarchical Bayes, producing an individual value frame that segments are built from.
  3. III. Selection · Trade-Off Choice Modeling

    What we study
How each segment weighs brand, price, channel and advisor, and which groups your house wins or loses at the moment of choice.
    How we study it
Choice-based conjoint, with preference share simulated segment by segment.
  4. IV. Encounter · Expectation-Delivery Gap Analysis

    What we study
Where the experience lands differently for each segment, and which groups feel underserved by a journey designed for the average client.
    How we study it
A delivery-gap index by touchpoint, compared across segments.
  5. V. Verdict · Retention & Advocacy Tracking

    What we study
Which segments are deepening their relationship with your house, which are drifting away, and what is driving each.
    How we study it
Longitudinal tracking of repeat intent and advocacy by segment.

How the Decision Arc Works

Which of these answers your question?

Most engagements begin by naming the decision rather than the method. Tell us what has to be decided and by when, and we’ll scope the right study against it.
